Melissa Reischman’s exhibition Sensory Perceptions at MOAH:CEDAR features paintings that use the principles of light and dark to explore psychological and existential states of being. Informed and inspired by her encounters with the natural world, Reischman’s compositions serve as visual metaphors for the transitions that occur when drifting through various emotional states. She utilizes methods of application and erasure to create drawings that allude to natural elements, landscapes, and still life. The effects of sharp and soft focus, along with extreme lights and darks create a swirling, luminous quality that is present in the works that make up Sensory Perceptions
